Top 10 Recipes You Can Make In Your Barracks Room

Published by Goooooose on

Depending on your branch and duty station, your cooking facilities may be somewhat… less than ideal. Luckily, there are a ton of recipes that you can make using only a microwave. Yes, you read that right. You can make some awesome food right in your barracks room! You’ll have to buy some extra cooking supplies like a bowl, and maybe some measuring cups, but I mean, for making a tasty snack? That’s cash money.

These recipes are divided into breakfast, lunch/dinner, and dessert. Just click the link in the heading to get the recipe.

Cinnamon Rolls

There’s not much more to say here, this recipe is perfect. I guess you could try cooking it in a mug if you want to spice things up.

The picture is, indeed, of a pancake, it’s just smothered with so many toppings that it’s hard to tell. But that’s the way to do it, right?

Mug French Toast

All I have to say is, this is much better than the stuff that they serve at the chow hall, which is either over or undercooked depending on the day.

It is totally possible to make a pizza in a microwave. But will it taste good? That all depends on your cooking skills. Spruce it up with some spices and seasonings. This recipe doesn’t include toppings, because apparently they don’t do well in the microwave. If you choose to make this recipe, microwave your toppings separately so they don’t burn.

Chicken Wings

Those wings make my mouth water. You’ll have to scroll down past the raw wings section because you’ll want to do this with pre-cooked wings. Make sure you get the right ones at the store. The recipe doesn’t include an option to add sauce for the pre-cooked wings, so add it after the chicken has finished cooking. It shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds to heat up from room temperature.

Garlic Parmesan Pizza Rolls

Apparently this recipe was viral on Tik Tok at some point, and I can see why. Who knew that pizza rolls could get even better than they already are? The blogger from the website is trying to be bougie when she recommends cooking them in an air fryer. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Pizza rolls don’t need an air fryer. Throw them things in the microwave and you’re that much closer to heaven.

Fully Loaded Nachos

This recipe is super easy to make. It literally takes less than 10 minutes. Optional topping ideas:

Brownie In A Mug

Maybe stay away from this one during fitness test season. It’s so easy to make that it presents a real danger of over-indulgence. But we service-members have great self-control…. Right?

Cookie For One

The best part of this recipe: you can mix the ingredients in a mug! No need for using a bunch of bowls and utensils.

Lemon Bars

If I’m being honest, I was skeptical when I found this recipe. I mean, I struggle to make good lemon bars when I have a whole kitchen at my disposal, let alone just a microwave. But these are really easy to make and they turn out great.

There you have it, the top 10 recipes you can make in your barracks room with just a microwave. A word of caution: be very diligent about cleaning up. The last thing you want is for field day to come around and you’re still trying to clean flour dust out of the fridge lining.

And if you don’t want all these ingredients sticking around in your fridge after you’re done, why not make a night of it? Get together with some friends and use up all the ingredients to make a ton of food. Who’s gonna complain about leftovers?
